Senior Optical Engineer (Automotive): Leading end-to-end optical system performance design for Head-Up Display (HUD) systems with an accent on relay optics, FOV, and image stability. Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Warren, Michigan (Hybrid: 1–3 days/week onsite)

What you will do

• Own optical system performance throughout the entire lifecycle from requirements to launch.
• Design HUD relay optics ensuring criteria like FOV, luminance, and image stability are met.
• Create 3D optical models and simulations including ray bundles, eye-boxes, and thermal loads.
• Lead optical design direction, performance trade-offs, and supplier design reviews.
• Develop and govern comprehensive optical validation strategies across virtual, bench, and vehicle environments.
• Support root cause analysis for optical issues in both prototype and production phases.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in optical system design or validation.
• Proficiency with optical simulation tools such as Ansys, Zemax, Speos, or LightTools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with automotive HUD systems and advanced optics like waveguides or AR.
• Familiarity with GM-specific processes such as PRTS and ECR.
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD).
• DFSS or Six Sigma certification.
