What you will do

• Drive technical direction and implementation for client-facing gRPC APIs and SDKs.
• Design robust public API surfaces with a focus on versioning, backward compatibility, and error semantics.
• Evolve ranking and steerage logic to balance relevance, network status, and cost incentives.
• Optimize search systems for scale and reliability, including rate limiting and graceful degradation.
• Partner with product and partner engineering teams to shape the developer experience and roadmap.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across the backend organization.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States
• 8+ years of experience building backend services and distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in production search architectures, including keyword, vector, and LLM-driven retrieval.
• Proven track record of shipping and maintaining public APIs and SDKs.
• Strong experience with GCP data infrastructure such as Postgres, BigQuery, and Bigtable.
• Ability to operate as a technical lead, writing design docs and influencing without authority.

Nice to have

• Experience with provider search, clinical matching, or benefits/copay logic in healthcare.
• Familiarity with geospatial query patterns at scale.
• Experience building retrieval evaluation frameworks.
• Production experience with Go, gRPC, and protobuf.
• Experience with Terraform and startup environments.
