CNC Machinist (Optics)

TL;DR

CNC Machinist (Optics): Fabrication and shaping of precision optical geometries using 3/5 axis machining centers with an accent on CNC operation and G-code programming. Focus on ensuring quality and standardization of high-value optics and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency.

Location: Onsite in Wilton, CT, US. Must be willing to work in a clean room environment and follow a compressed work week schedule (12-hour shifts, rotating day/night).

What you will do

• Set up and operate 3/5-Axis CNC specialized optical machining centers.
• Generate part programs using Mastercam and manually program CNC controllers via data input.
• Verify the accuracy of finished high-value optics using micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Read and interpret ISO blueprints to incorporate requirements into part programs.
• Maintain documentation and communicate actions to ensure continuity across work shifts.
• Adhere to safety procedures, 5S requirements, and wear appropriate PPE.

Requirements

• High School, trade school graduate, or G.E.D.
• Legally authorized to access controlled technology as defined in the US Export Administration Regulations.
• Proven experience with multi-axis CNC mills (3, 4, and 5-Axis) and tool-holding systems.
• Proficiency in Mastercam and G-Code programming.
• Intermediate knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and basic mathematics.
• Familiarity with Windows 10, MS Office, and SAP.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in optical CNC fabrication.
• Experience with DMG, Hurco, and Siemens controls.
