TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Pharmaceutical Manufacturing): Developing mechanical and utility systems for pharmaceutical, biologics, and cell and gene therapy manufacturing facilities with an accent on HVAC, plant utilities, equipment packages, and construction documentation. Focus on designing complex utility distribution systems, coordinating vendors and clients, and supporting projects from feasibility through construction administration.

Location: Hybrid in Burlington, Massachusetts, United States; travel may be required for client and project development.

Salary: $135,000–$185,000 annually

What you will do

  • Own mechanical equipment modules and packages through design, procurement, testing, and delivery.
  • Develop HVAC, plumbing, compressed gas, chilled water, heating hot water, steam, and other plant and process utility systems.
  • Prepare P&IDs, calculations, reports, construction drawings, specifications, utility consumption summaries, and control plans.
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Support equipment selection, bid evaluations, design reviews, factory acceptance testing, submittal reviews, RFIs, and construction field visits.
  • Mentor less experienced mechanical engineers and deliver project scopes within budget and schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of mechanical design experience in a design firm setting.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, cell and gene therapy, or other life science projects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and development of P&IDs.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, including leading technical reviews with clients and suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement in Burlington, Massachusetts and travel as needed.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with HAP energy modeling software.
