Controller (Multifamily Property Accounting)

Location: New York City; hybrid, in-office 4–5 days per week.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 base per year plus bonus.

Work with a vertically integrated real estate investment and services firm headquartered in New York City, spanning property management, construction management, acquisitions, lending, and proprietary data analytics in the NYC multifamily market.

What you will do

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple multifamily properties and entities, including review and sign-off of property-level financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Oversee financial reporting deadlines, including delivery of 40+ monthly financial packages, and identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Manage reconciliations, A/P, A/R, cash management, treasury processes, audits, tax filings, and lender reporting.
• Manage and mentor remote and offshore property accountants and support staff while scaling workflows, operational efficiency, and internal controls.
• Support onboarding of acquired assets, including opening balance sheets, accruals, bank account setup, treasury functions, and transitions to property accountants.
• Partner with Asset Management on variance analysis and NOI drivers, lead Yardi administration, enhance Excel-based reporting tools, and oversee NYC TC and RPIE filings.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of accounting experience within real estate accounting.
• Strong multifamily property accounting experience.
• Experience overseeing large portfolios and multiple entities or assets simultaneously.
• Experience managing remote and/or offshore accounting teams.
• Advanced proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Excel.
• Deep understanding of accrual accounting and property-level financial reporting.
• Experience with NYC regulatory filings, including TC and RPIE.
• Strong organizational, communication, and deadline management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
