What you will do

• Research and write original content for magazines, newsletters, user manuals, technical reports, and research documents.
• Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and technical staff to translate complex concepts into clear narratives for diverse audiences.
• Provide substantive editing throughout production, correcting grammar, spelling, formatting, and content issues.
• Verify technical accuracy through interviews, conference attendance, and review of source materials.
• Apply the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and Section 508 accessibility standards.
• Manage copyright and permissions clearances and independently guide documents or articles through review cycles to final publication.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related technical field.
• 5–10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and publishing.
• Demonstrated expertise applying the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style and ensuring Section 508 compliance.
• Ability to obtain a USDOT Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential.

Nice to have

• Experience in the transportation sector, especially highway and surface transportation research.
