Technical Editor I (Aerospace)

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina, United States. Onsite work at the Aircraft Reconfig Technologies facility; full-time schedule with possible overtime and flexible hours.

What you will do

• Plan, coordinate, review, and revise technical publications according to FAA, customer, and internal standards.
• Review publications for spelling, punctuation, grammar, content accuracy, and adherence to internal standards.
• Confirm revision levels of engineering sources and help plan publication content by publication type and editorial policy.
• Recommend changes that improve clarity and provide comments to strengthen department deliverables.
• Collaborate with writers to help deliver successful publications and review digital media and web-based documents.
• Perform other assigned duties and special projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Eight years of experience as a technical writer.
• Familiarity with ATA iSpec 2200 format.
• Computer skills including MS Word, Windows, and internet browsers.
• Fluent English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
• Excellent oral, written, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with a strong desire to work in a team.
• Ability to read and comprehend written engineering information, engineering drawings, and other technical data.
• Availability for overtime and/or a flexible schedule as job requirements dictate.
• Ability to sit and work effectively at computer terminals for extended periods and work the assigned schedule with minimal absences; the role also requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving about the facility.

Nice to have

• Four years of technical writing experience documenting modifications to transport category aircraft and/or manufacturing transport category aircraft assemblies, subassemblies, or components.
• Experience with aircraft technical manuals such as MM, IPC, and SRM, and with the ATA iSpec 2200 format.
• Experience with FAA regulations, specifications, and related requirements.
• Aircraft-related technical illustration experience.
• Experience using FrameMaker and a content management system.
