Advanced Manufacturing Technician (Automotive)

TL;DR

Advanced Manufacturing Technician (CNC/Automotive): Supporting prototype and low-volume manufacturing operations for the Gear Center with an accent on CNC lathe and mill setup, programming, and optimization. Focus on developing machining processes, improving cycle times, and implementing engineering changes for high-performance vehicle programs.

Location: Onsite in Pontiac, Michigan. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

What you will do

• Set up, operate, and optimize CNC lathes, mills, and related machining equipment for prototype production.
• Develop, edit, and prove out CNC programs to ensure repeatable and efficient machining processes.
• Collaborate with suppliers and engineers to optimize tooling, fixtures, and workholding methods.
• Analyze existing machining operations to improve cycle time, tool life, and equipment utilization.
• Provide technical expertise for custom projects including GM Racing, GM Defense, and EV/battery programs.
• Maintain accurate technical records and communicate operational needs across shifts.

Requirements

• Must be based in the US or eligible to work without sponsorship (no H1-B, OPT, etc.).
• BS in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, OR 10+ years of experience in prototype manufacturing and CNC programming.
• Strong hands-on experience with CNC lathe and mill setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, gear/spline charts, and GD&T requirements.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Teamcenter, and Siemens NX.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles.
