Staff Design Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing integrated thermal lubrication systems for an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with an accent on system architecture, fluid components, modeling, and validation. Location: San Jose, California, United States

Salary: $172,000–$225,000 base salary annually

What you will do

  • Lead integrated thermal lubrication system design from concept through production implementation.
  • Design pumps, filters, heat exchangers, pressure relief valves, and related system components.
  • Create CAD models, technical drawings, system architectures, and performance specifications.
  • Model and analyze thermal and fluid-flow performance using 1D simulation, CFD, and related tools.
  • Design test equipment and fixtures, execute component and system testing, and troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Provide technical leadership across propulsion, manufacturing, aerodynamics, testing, and supplier teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing fluid systems, lubrication systems, or thermal management systems.
  • Experience taking systems from concept through production.
  • Proficiency with CAD modeling and 2D drawings, including NX, Creo, or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, manufacturing processes, and 1D modeling tools such as GT-Power, AMESim, or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Willingness to work in San Jose, California, travel for testing and supplier visits, and follow safety-first engineering practices.

Nice to have

  • CFD experience with StarCCM+ or similar software.
  • Aerospace or aviation development experience and knowledge of FAA/EASA certification processes.
  • Experience with lubricant formulation, electric or hybrid vehicle lubrication systems, data acquisition, or test automation.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
