Java and React Software Engineer

Location: Porto, Portugal; candidates must already be based in Portugal and have the legal right to work there. The role includes the possibility to work from home and travel to clients in countries such as Switzerland and Germany. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available.

What you will do

• Implement purpose-built business applications for international public-sector clients.
• Contribute across the full product lifecycle, from initial ideas through development and launch.
• Develop software using Java, React, and appropriate DevOps tools.
• Work closely with clients to understand domains and requirements and propose innovative solutions.
• Collaborate with software engineers and architects in an agile, multidisciplinary team.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve engineering effectiveness.

Requirements

• University degree in computer science or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with Java and React.
• DevOps mindset with a strong focus on code quality and automated testing.
• Learning- and success-oriented approach, with motivation to work toward ambitious goals in a team and engage directly with clients.
• Fluent English.
• Must already be based in Portugal and have the legal right to work there.

Nice to have

• Experience with Playwright, Azure, Helm, Terraform, GitHub Workflows, or Spring Boot.
• Experience working with AI agents such as Copilot or Claude.
