TL;DR

Head of Control (Fintech): Leading the development of a modern first-line control environment for a large-scale banking technology landscape with an accent on automated, preventative, and real-time controls. Focus on embedding control-by-design principles across cloud platforms, AI-enabled services, and software engineering practices to improve operational resilience.

Location: Hybrid, requiring 40% (or two days) presence in one of the following offices: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds or Edinburgh

Salary: £116,535 - £137,100

What you will do

• Lead the development of a modern first-line control environment aligned with technology, engineering, and product delivery practices.
• Embed control-by-design principles across architecture, software engineering, and cloud platforms.
• Drive the adoption of automated, preventative, and real-time controls to reduce manual intervention and increase delivery speed.
• Partner with Data and AI teams to ensure control frameworks remain effective as new capabilities are adopted.
• Support large-scale modernization, including cloud adoption and migration from legacy environments.
• Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing Control Office team.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading first-line technology risk and control teams within technology-led organizations.
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms, engineering practices, and software delivery automation.
• Proven track record of designing automated, preventative controls in complex environments.
• Strong knowledge of operational resilience and control frameworks across cloud and engineering ecosystems.
• Experience with AI-enabled services and associated governance considerations.
• Must be based in or able to work hybrid from London, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, or Edinburgh.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or other major cloud providers.
• Experience embedding controls within AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics environments.
• Implementation of technology-enabled control monitoring and testing solutions.
