is pioneering a modern cloud-seeding system to increase precipitation and address severe-weather challenges through atmospheric science and UAS technology.
What you will do
- Assess and prioritize ML projects across the company based on operational value and data readiness.
- Build models for forecasting, nowcasting, retrievals, and multimodal atmospheric-state estimation.
- Develop methods to predict the occurrence, location, and persistence of supercooled liquid water.
- Integrate public NWP with radar, satellite, microwave-sounder, UAS, and in-situ observations.
- Create custom datasets, labels, baselines, and validation procedures for variables poorly observed by public systems.
- Collaborate with meteorologists and software engineers to productionize successful research prototypes.
Requirements
- Exceptional ability in machine learning research and engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX.
- Experience working with noisy, sparse, multimodal, spatial, or temporal data.
- Sound statistical judgment regarding leakage, distribution shift, calibration, and uncertainty.
- Ability to translate ambiguous problems into measurable targets and working prototypes.
- Must be based in or be able to relocate to El Segundo, CA (On-site)
Nice to have
- Experience with weather, climate, remote sensing, geospatial data, or scientific ML.
- Background in robotics, autonomy, aerospace, or state estimation.
- Experience with sequence models, probabilistic models, generative models, or sensor fusion.
- Experience taking research models into real-world user workflows or production.
- Familiarity with atmospheric science.
