What you will do

• Lead the design and optimization of lexical, vector, and hybrid retrieval systems at scale.
• Architect and improve RAG pipelines, including prompt design and system orchestration.
• Define and evolve evaluation strategies for IR and GenAI systems, including hallucination detection and ranking quality.
• Collaborate with domain experts to integrate scientific taxonomies and knowledge graphs into discovery pipelines.
• Partner with engineering to ensure robust, scalable, and production-ready implementations.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Strong hands-on experience with search/retrieval systems, RAG pipelines, and LLM-based systems.
• Advanced programming skills in Python.
• Experience with modern ML/NLP frameworks such as PyTorch, Hugging Face, and LangChain.
• Experience working with Databricks or similar distributed data/ML platforms.
• Strong understanding of experimentation design and statistical analysis.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with scientific ontologies and metadata standards like MeSH or UMLS.
• Exposure to production MLOps practices.
• Experience with human-in-the-loop evaluation or annotation workflows.
• Demonstrated applied research in IR, NLP, or generative AI.
