Senior Data Scientist - Search (E-commerce)

What you will do

• Design and develop machine learning algorithms for personalized shopping experiences.
• Deploy models and algorithms into production while owning performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Improve retrieval and reranking systems by replacing business-logic-heavy approaches with data-driven solutions.
• Build and manage data pipelines and analyze large datasets using statistical and machine learning techniques.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to establish standards and best practices for machine learning deployment.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Python or another scientific computing language, plus strong SQL skills.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning solutions with measurable business impact.
• Knowledge of machine learning principles, data structures, algorithms, statistical model evaluation, and large-scale data processing.
• Experience designing, building, and managing data pipelines, with familiarity with cloud model training and serving platforms such as Vertex AI or SageMaker.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to explain complex machine learning concepts clearly.
• Ability to work in Hamburg or Berlin, Germany.

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD, Terraform, Docker, MLOps frameworks, or cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with generative AI and agentic frameworks.
• Knowledge of recommendation, retrieval, and reranking systems in e-commerce or retail.
• Experience with BigQuery, time series, graph neural networks, Gaussian Processes, or statistical testing.
• Experience with computer vision, deep learning, interactive dashboards, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
