What you will do

• Design, characterize, and test optical hardware components to improve reliability and reduce costs.
• Support product sustaining activities by identifying risks and mitigating component obsolescence.
• Plan and execute laboratory experiments for optical components, transceiver modules, and design changes.
• Implement optical testing and screening methodologies to improve manufacturing yield.
• Analyze optical, electrical, and environmental test data to verify performance and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical expertise for hardware failure analysis and cross-functional manufacturing support.

Requirements

• Must be based in Canada
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Opto-Electronics, Photonics, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in design, characterization, or testing of opto-electronic devices.
• Practical knowledge of optical principles involving lasers, amplifiers, modulators, and transceivers.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as OSA, OPM, DCA, OTDR, and VOA.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in a related engineering or scientific discipline.
• Experience with statistical analysis methods (Cpk, USL/LSL).
• Experience automating laboratory testing with Python, MATLAB, or Tcl.
• Knowledge of Passive Optical Networking (PON) or optical communication standards.
