Automation Controls Engineer III (Aerospace)

Location: Central Texas, United States; onsite manufacturing and commissioning work

Salary: $150,931–$211,303 base pay for Colorado applicants; other site ranges may differ.

What you will do

• Design control system architectures covering network topology, I/O distribution, safety systems, and communication protocols.
• Develop and integrate custom industrial automation systems, including PLC, HMI, robot, auxiliary equipment, and machine controls.
• Create offline simulations to validate control logic, robot paths, cycle times, and system behavior before hardware is available.
• Debug, commission, install, and start up automated manufacturing systems with panel fabricators and field installation teams.
• Lead or support factory and site acceptance testing and produce sequence-of-operations, I/O, network, and program documentation.
• Apply engineering fundamentals to identify root causes and solve novel automation problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, controls, or a related engineering field.
• At least four years of hands-on industrial controls and automation experience, including PLC and HMI programming.
• Experience with industrial automation platforms such as robots, material handling systems, CNC integration, NDT, assembly, testing, or process tools.
• Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and experience with industrial safety systems, safety PLCs, and safety-rated circuits.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of IEC 61131, ANSI B11, NFPA 79, RIA R15.06, IEC 62061, or ISO 13849.
• Experience with offline programming or virtual commissioning tools such as Plant Simulate, Process Simulate, Visual Components, KUKA.Sim, or RobotStudio.
• Experience with machine vision, electrical control panels, and electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
• Experience delivering custom automated manufacturing systems from concept through production ramp-up.
