Lead Engineer (Fintech, Laravel): Leading the Payments team to build and maintain a reliable, high-precision financial operating system for trade schools with an accent on ledger accuracy, payment reconciliation, and complex money mechanics. Focus on driving product direction, managing senior engineering talent, and leveraging AI-native workflows to ensure flawless transaction processing.

Location: Must be a resident of the United States and able to overlap at least 6 hours with Salt Lake City, UT time zone.

Compensation: $110,000–$145,000 USD + Equity + Quarterly Performance Bonuses

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a team of senior engineers while remaining hands-on in the codebase.
• Own the end-to-end reliability of the payments platform, including reconciliation, chargebacks, and settlement.
• Shape the product roadmap and influence the direction of the payments engine and borrower-facing experience.
• Manage integrations with payment facilitators and ensure idempotency and correctness across all financial transactions.
• Drive the development of complex features like jurisdiction-specific tax allocation and interest-bearing payment plans.
• Utilize agentic AI tooling to plan, build, and ship high-quality code efficiently.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including leadership roles.
• Fintech experience is required, with deep knowledge of money movement, reconciliation, and settlement.
• Deep Laravel and PHP expertise in large, complex codebases.
• Fluent across the stack, including backend money mechanics and front-end experience with Livewire/Filament.
• Daily AI-native workflow using tools like Claude Code or Gemini.
• Must be a resident of the United States and available for timezone-aligned work.

• Accounting background with a native understanding of ledgers, debits, and credits.
