Staff Software Engineer (Systems)

What you will do

• Design and own low-level systems including Fusion, Fusion Snapshots, Ignite, and Sched.
• Write reliable code primarily in Go and C, with Rust and JVM where appropriate.
• Work close to the OS, managing Linux namespaces, process supervision, and signal handling.
• Tackle multi-cloud orchestration challenges including autoscaling and spot-instance fault tolerance.
• Drive performance engineering for chunked I/O, caching, and bandwidth management.
• Set technical direction and mentor teammates to raise standards for testing and observability.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• Deep experience building production-grade systems software at a Staff level.
• Strong proficiency in Go and C, with a deep understanding of Linux internals.
• Experience building distributed or cloud-native systems across multiple cloud providers.
• Ability to write simple, well-structured, and well-tested code.
• Openness to using AI tools extensively in daily engineering workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with CRIU, checkpoint-restore, or process migration.
• Knowledge of FUSE or other filesystem/VFS work.
• Familiarity with Rust, JVM, container runtimes, or Kubernetes.
• Background in HPC/Batch systems or applied ML/data engineering.
