Ground Systems Engineer (Space)

Location: Hybrid (Tokyo, Japan) - On site at least twice a week

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy ground segment systems and mission control software.
• Create automation tools to streamline and optimize mission operations and scale the ecosystem.
• Integrate software components within virtual infrastructure, ensuring proper interfacing with spacecraft and external ground elements.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and end-to-end validation of communication and control links.
• Support 24/7 on-console operations, mission rehearsals, and on-call duties during critical phases.
• Maintain Ground-to-Ground and Space-to-Ground Interface Control Documents (ICDs).

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in ground operations for space missions (LEO, MEO, Deep Space, etc.).
• Professional level English (written and verbal).
• Experience with SIL, PIL, HIL, or mixed hardware-software environments.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, and CI/CD tools such as Ansible and Gitlab.
• Solid knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with mission control systems (Yamcs, Grafana) and CCSDS protocols.
• Full-stack engineering experience developing high-availability production tools.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS Tools.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases (SQL, MongoDB, Influx).
• Business level Japanese proficiency.
