TL;DR
Backend Engineer (AI Finance): Building reliable APIs, workflows, and financial product infrastructure for an AI Neobank app with an accent on scalability, security, and regulated financial systems. Location: Japan, hybrid; work from the Japan office at least 3 days per week

What you will do
- Build backend services, APIs, and workflows for the AI Neobank app.
- Develop infrastructure supporting insurance, payments, wallets, savings, investing, travel, and other financial services.
- Design systems for user accounts, transactions, partner integrations, reconciliation, notifications, and operations.
- Integrate with banks, payment gateways, insurers, data providers, and other partners.
- Collaborate with product and mobile teams to deliver customer-facing journeys.
- Improve system reliability, observability, security, performance, auditability, and data quality.
Requirements
- 3+ years of backend engineering experience.
- Strong fundamentals in APIs, databases, system design, and production debugging.
- Experience building scalable services and integrating third-party systems.
- Understanding of security, reliability, data quality, operational edge cases, and production risk.
- Ability to collaborate with product, mobile, operations, and business teams and make practical speed-versus-quality trade-offs.
- Strong English communication is required; English is the main working language.
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, payments, insurance, lending, banking, or other regulated products.
- Experience owning production issues and long-term system reliability.
