Senior Backend Software Engineer (Energy)

Location: Hybrid (Austin, TX; Sunnyvale, CA; or Warren, MI). Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Salary: $129,400 - $198,400

What you will do

• Design, develop, and support scalable backend services and APIs for internal and customer-facing applications.
• Own service architecture and technical design decisions for backend platform capabilities.
• Improve system scalability, performance, and operational excellence through logging, monitoring, and observability.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver robust technical solutions.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to stronger backend development practices.
• Drive code quality through code reviews, testing strategies, and enforcement of engineering standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience building backend applications and production APIs.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases and cloud platforms.
• Must be authorized to work in the US; no immigration sponsorship provided.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and event-driven systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
• Experience in regulated or large-scale enterprise environments.
