What you will do

• Define technical strategy and architecture across Platform, AI, and Retrieval services.
• Design scalable backend systems, APIs, and shared platform capabilities.
• Partner with AI and Retrieval teams to build scalable search and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) capabilities.
• Lead complex cross-team technical initiatives from design through production.
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, observability, and developer experience.
• Contribute hands-on to critical code paths and mentor engineers through design reviews.

Requirements

• Experience designing and building large-scale backend systems and distributed architectures.
• Strong programming experience in Python or another modern backend language.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS), Kubernetes, and API design.
• Familiarity with AI-powered systems, RAG, search platforms, or vector databases.
• Proven ability to influence technical direction and lead cross-team initiatives.
• Must be based in or able to work hybrid in London.

Nice to have

• Experience as a founding engineer or CTO at a startup.
