Software Development Engineer, Data Center Builder Tools (Industrial Automation)

What you will do

• Design and implement real-time middleware and runtime components for embedded controllers, edge systems, and the cloud.
• Build industrial device drivers and integrations for protocols including IEC 61131-3, EtherCAT, PROFINET, Modbus, OPC-UA, and IO-Link.
• Develop reliable edge-to-cloud communication for telemetry, metrics, and commands using appropriate delivery guarantees, backpressure, and store-and-forward behavior.
• Engineer distributed systems with bounded latency, predictable behavior, graceful degradation, and resource efficiency on constrained hardware.
• Lead testing, benchmarking, code review, on-hardware validation, and operational excellence for owned components.
• Collaborate with hardware, controls, security, and operations specialists while mentoring engineers and contributing to technical direction.

Requirements

• Professional, non-internship software development experience.
• Programming experience with a modern language such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design.
• Experience with software development life cycle practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations.
• Experience designing or architecting reliable and scalable systems or delivering complex software systems.
• Experience with embedded development, hardware troubleshooting, real-time systems, industrial automation, distributed systems, or middleware is relevant to the role.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rust, C/C++, or Python.
• Experience with DDS, Zenoh, or similar real-time middleware.
• Experience with industrial automation platforms, OPC-UA, device drivers, serialization, memory layout, and schema versioning.
