What you will do

• Own the technical direction for complex initiatives spanning device APIs, event pipelines, and partner-facing platform capabilities.
• Lead architectural design for medium-to-large initiatives, producing high-quality design documents that capture tradeoffs and constraints.
• Build and evolve shared platform patterns, API contracts, and event schemas used across the department.
• Create reusable frameworks and libraries that reduce duplicated effort and accelerate delivery for other engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers and influence department-wide technical standards via tech councils and design reviews.
• Implement AI-assisted development workflows for drafting, debugging, and refactoring while maintaining strict validation rigor.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with a track record of operating at Staff-level scope.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Deep proficiency in RESTful/gRPC APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures (Kafka or equivalent).
• Proven ability to lead large, multi-engineer technical initiatives from architecture through delivery.
• Must be based in Boston, MA, and able to work from the office 4 days a week.
• Positive buy-in and practical familiarity with AI-assisted development tools.

Nice to have

• Strong experience with .NET/C# and SQL Server.
• Experience with IoT platforms, device lifecycle management, or transport protocols.
• Background in microservice or domain-aligned architecture and migrating from monolithic systems.
• Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for integrating AI agents with platform services.
