What you will do

• Design and build core components of the query/compute engine powering analysis across the product suite.
• Evolve the compute API and semantic layer to support generic tables and improved data modeling.
• Unify the core data model to represent non-event data (profiles, lookup tables) alongside event data.
• Optimize the performance, reliability, and scalability of query planning and execution.
• Partner with cross-functional teams including Session Replay, Experiment, and CDP to shape the compute layer.
• Own projects end-to-end from initial design through to final rollout.

Requirements

• Strong backend or distributed-systems engineering experience.
• Expertise with OLAP databases, query engines, or data infrastructure.
• Proficiency with SQL, query planning, and query execution.
• Experience building high-dependency APIs used by multiple engineering teams.
• Proven track record of owning ambiguous, cross-team projects.
• Location: Must be based in San Francisco, CA

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale event or time-series data systems.
• Experience designing semantic layers or ORMs.
• Familiarity with columnar databases or OLAP query engines.
• Experience integrating data platforms with AI/agent workflows.
