Backend Engineer (Experiments)

Location: Fully remote; open to candidates based anywhere outside of Russia. Preferred time zones are UTC+1 to UTC+7, with flexibility.

Salary: $7,500–$10,000 per month net; the benefits section also lists a base salary of $80,000–$120,000 USD per year, plus stock options.

Constructor is a U.S.-based product company building an AI-powered search and discovery platform for e-commerce at extreme scale.

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend services for experiment assignment, exposure logging, and report generation.
• Improve the scalability, performance, and reliability of experiment reporting pipelines.
• Add product-facing features to the Plotly Dash UI for launching experiments and interpreting results.
• Take technical ownership of projects by shaping solutions, breaking down work, and driving execution.
• Participate in a weekly on-call rotation and investigate occasional issues.
• Collaborate with Search, Recommendations, ML/DS, and customer-facing teams.

Requirements

• Strong experience building and owning production backend services in Python.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, and debugging user-facing systems.
• Strong SQL skills and confidence working with data-heavy systems, including metrics, logging, and analytics.
• Ability to ship maintainable software through testing, code review, and incremental delivery.
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into executable technical plans and take ownership of solutions.
• Technologies include Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Plotly Dash, PySpark/Databricks, AWS, CloudWatch, and Sentry.

Nice to have

• Experience with experimentation systems, metrics platforms, or A/B testing workflows.
• Experience with PySpark and/or Databricks.
• Ability to ramp up effectively in a data-heavy experimentation domain.
