Research Technician (Microbiology)

Location: Must be based in Milton Keynes (onsite 5 days per week)

Salary: £32,080 – £37,694

What you will do

• Curate microbial culture collections and process incoming field research samples.
• Perform general microbiology tasks, including the preparation of anaerobic media and cultures.
• Execute DNA extraction from environmental samples and isolated microorganisms using in-house protocols.
• Conduct PCR amplification and prepare samples for Sanger sequencing.
• Manage consumable orders and assist the Laboratory Manager with budget tracking.
• Act as the Waste Champion, coordinating hazardous waste disposal and ensuring general laboratory cleanliness.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in a STEM subject, preferably microbiology, molecular biology, or biological sciences.
• Proven laboratory experience, specifically within a Higher Education or scientific research establishment.
• Practical knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology equipment and techniques.
• Solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation within a laboratory environment.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Required to work from the Milton Keynes campus 5 days per week.

• Professional registration as RSciTech, RSci, or CSci.
