TL;DR

Founding Tooling Engineer (Manufacturing): Designing and implementing precision tooling systems for large-scale aerospace and defense manufacturing with an accent on performance, reliability, and scalability. Focus on structural and mechanical tooling design, FEA validation, and collaborating with engineering leadership to build new production capabilities.

Location: On-site in Los Angeles, CA. Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for ITAR authorizations.

What you will do

  • Design structural and mechanical tooling to support large components and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and vendors to build, source, and implement tooling systems.
  • Work with technicians and manufacturing teams to ensure proper installation and use of tooling.
  • Support testing, validation, and continuous improvement of tooling across the production lifecycle.
  • Provide clear documentation and technical guidance for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and how tooling supports quality and production efficiency.
  • Experience designing tooling systems for complex or large-scale parts (e.g., machining or welding).
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and simulation tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or ANSYS.
  • Ability to perform FEA and static analysis to validate tooling under real-world conditions.
  • Knowledge of material selection and fabrication techniques for high-load or high-temperature environments.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual per ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Physics, or a related STEM field.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including design, quality, and automation.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments with evolving priorities.
