Tailings Practice Lead (AIM)

What you will do

• Lead the AIM tailings practice regionally and manage a team of tailings engineers and technologists based in Johannesburg.
• Develop business and support marketing for existing and new mining and mineral refining clients, including expressions of interest and proposals.
• Collaborate with other hirify.global tailings practices globally to develop tailings disposal solutions for the African mining industry.
• Lead scoping studies through to detailed engineering and operational support engagements.
• Support clients with technical clarifications using the hirify.global Integrated Tailings Management (HITM) tool for monitoring data consolidation and GISTM compliance auditing.
• Grow and develop tailings and mine water management professionals in Johannesburg to support current projects and build external client capability.

Requirements

• Location: Must be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
• Bachelor of Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering with some geotechnical/tailings experience.
• At least 10 years post-graduate experience in industrial civil projects for the mining and metals industry in Africa.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and working knowledge of MS Project.
• Ability to travel within Africa and the Middle East with a valid passport and approved visa/permanent residency to work in South Africa.

• Pr. Eng designation.
• Experience developing and reviewing engineering design for tailings facilities; Engineer-of-Record (EoR) capability.
• Working knowledge of geotechnical software and modeling tools (e.g., InRoads, Muk3D, Civil3D, Geostudio, Plaxis).
• Recognized expertise in heavy civil or dam design.
