Senior Software Engineer (Java/AWS)

Location: Remote, based in Ireland; occasional travel may be required for project or team meetings.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate highly available billing platform services, APIs, and account lifecycle capabilities.
• Develop new services and features while transitioning the platform to next-generation architecture.
• Own platform domains including microservices, REST APIs, and infrastructure from inception through maintenance.
• Execute the full software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, documentation, deployment, and upgrades.
• Troubleshoot operational issues, improve debugging procedures, and strengthen observability and early-warning systems.
• Collaborate with Product, internal teams, external engineers, and stakeholders to define technical work and customer impact.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building highly scalable products and 5+ years of programming experience in Java or a similar object-oriented language.
• Expertise in object-oriented programming, clean code, architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, observability, and tools such as Grafana, DataDog, or Prometheus.
• Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, cloud data stores, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and automation.
• Experience collaborating with Product teams and stakeholders, with strong written and spoken communication skills.
• Computer Science degree or equivalent professional experience.

Nice to have

• On-call support for mission-critical customer systems and production debugging.
• Complex SQL query optimization, customer-facing applications, Linux, and Kubernetes containerization.
• Experience with gRPC, Python, TypeScript, React, or Apache Kafka.
