Staff Backend Engineer (Identity Threat Protection)

Location: Hybrid role in San Francisco, California; U.S. Person status is required to access federal environments or protected federal data.

Salary: $194,000–$267,000 USD annual base salary for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area, plus potential equity, bonus, and benefits.

What you will do

• Architect, develop, deliver, and support cloud-native Identity Threat Protection products from concept through production.
• Design systems that analyze user behavior and system data to identify, prioritize, and neutralize security risks.
• Partner with engineering, product management, design, support, and documentation teams.
• Maintain high programming standards through rigorous code reviews and comprehensive unit and functional testing.
• Work with remote teams while maintaining product quality, agility, and delivery velocity.
• Mentor junior engineers as a player-coach and technical standard-setter.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building Java-based web applications.
• Deep understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles.
• Experience with continuous integration and deployment practices in fast-paced software development teams.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions.
• Proven security engineering background and track record of championing best practices.
• Ability to provide documentation establishing U.S. Person status upon hire.

Nice to have

• Experience building anomaly detection or risk systems.
• Expertise in cloud security, identity, or authentication protocols.
• Experience with Angular, React, Backbone, or Vue.
