TL;DR
Senior Director, Global Trade Compliance (U.S. Trade Regulations/Export Controls): Leading global trade compliance strategy, governance, import/export operations, and regulatory risk management across a manufacturing organization with an accent on EAR, ITAR, sanctions, customs, and cross-border compliance. Focus on building global compliance programs, managing a 35+ person international team, engaging regulators, implementing automation, and addressing complex trade risks across markets, products, and supply chains.

Location: Buffalo, NY; fully remote or hybrid if local. The position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Salary: $245,000–$325,000 annually.

What you will do

  • Develop and own the global trade compliance vision, strategy, governance structure, policies, and operating model.
  • Lead import, export, customs, sanctions, supply-chain security, licensing, classification, screening, and recordkeeping programs.
  • Manage a global trade compliance organization of 35+ professionals across domestic and international locations.
  • Oversee enterprise risk assessments, audits, corrective actions, incident response, voluntary disclosures, and enforcement matters.
  • Represent the organization before customs authorities, export control agencies, regulators, auditors, and trade policy bodies.
  • Advise executive leadership and business functions on market entry, M&A, product launches, sourcing, manufacturing changes, and trade efficiency initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; an advanced degree or JD is preferred.
  • More than 10 years of trade compliance experience, preferably in industrial or manufacturing sectors.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. and international trade regulations, including EAR, ITAR, customs, sanctions, and anti-boycott rules.
  • Experience leading global teams and complex compliance programs.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, regulatory engagement, and risk-management skills.
  • Must be able to access U.S. export-controlled information.

Nice to have

  • JD or other advanced degree.
  • Experience with WCO SAFE, CTPAT, AEO, trade automation, tariff engineering, and free trade agreement utilization.
