Staff+ Software Engineer, Safeguards Human Review Tooling

Location: New York City, NY or San Francisco, CA; hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time

What you will do

• Build investigation, review, and enforcement tooling, including case queues, investigation views, audit logs, decision workflows, and account actions.
• Develop reusable APIs, data storage, and backend services that enable review workflows to be launched safely and quickly.
• Deploy and operate tooling across multiple cloud providers and partner environments while keeping data in place.
• Maintain shared deployment pipelines, smoke tests, observability, and alerting for consistent operations.
• Scale review through automation and Claude-assisted or Claude-driven workflows.
• Partner with policy, operations, legal, privacy, and data science stakeholders to improve handling time, decision quality, and system reliability.

Requirements

• Technical background in full-stack or platform engineering with the ability to contribute deeply to architecture and design discussions.
• Experience shipping internal tools or platforms for demanding operational users and measurably improving their workflows.
• Experience collaborating with non-engineering partners, including operations, policy, or legal teams.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Care about the societal impact of AI and want to make powerful systems safer.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, training, or experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• 8+ years of industry software engineering experience.
• Experience with data labeling, trust and safety, integrity, fraud, abuse prevention, or human review systems at scale.
• Experience handling sensitive or regulated data with access control, auditability, retention, and data residency requirements.
• Experience across multiple cloud providers or with provider-agnostic infrastructure.
• A product-minded approach to internal users and their workflows.
