Community Engagement Intern (Fall 2026)

Location: Silver Spring, MD, USA; in-person work at the Silver Spring office is required.

What you will do

• Conduct outreach to community partners and coordinate meetings to recruit volunteers.
• Support volunteer onboarding, research volunteer best practices, and suggest program improvements based on feedback.
• Help plan events recognizing community partners and volunteers.
• Create content for social media, the IRC website, newsletters, and outreach materials.
• Track community partnerships across IRC in Silver Spring programs.
• Coordinate in-kind donation opportunities.

Requirements

• Part-time commitment of at least 20 hours per week; the posting also specifies a minimum of 24 hours per week and at least 15 hours in person.
• Availability to work in person at the Silver Spring office, including some weeknights and weekends.
• Interest in immigration, refugees, and serving others.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Creativity, initiative, and ability to follow through on projects.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Culture & Benefits

• Fall internship term runs from September through December 2026.
• In-person intern orientation is scheduled for September 7, 2026.
• The internship is unpaid.
• Eligible Fall 2026 interns may receive a $15/day per diem reimbursement for food and travel.
• Background checks are required for selected applicants, with a requested $30 donation to cover associated costs.
