Staff AI Engineer (API & Integrations)

Location: Barcelona, Spain; office-first hybrid schedule with on-site work several days a week

What you will do

• Own the public API and integrations framework from problem definition and system design through shipping, monitoring, and production iteration.
• Design developer experiences for internal and external integration developers and enable product teams to publish tools through the public API.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to create consistent API and integration experiences across ATS, payroll, ERP, and other product areas.
• Join customer calls, reviews, and feedback sessions to understand workflows and build solutions for real user needs.
• Mentor peers, document learnings, and contribute to engineering practices.
• Help define the evolving AI roadmap, including AI Skills, evaluation frameworks, RAG, and agentic workflows.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and development maturity, with experience writing well-tested, production-grade code.
• Proven impact through shipped products, side projects, or technical contributions.
• Experience owning systems end-to-end and designing reusable frameworks and components for multiple teams or use cases.
• Experience working with legacy or monolithic systems and evolving internal frameworks.
• Knowledge of APIs, cloud platforms, and system design, with the ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly.
• Ability to work from the Barcelona office several days a week.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLMs, skill-based agents, MCP, or other AI protocols.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, or other relevant technology stacks.
