TL;DR
Staff Engineer (AI R&D): Leading the design and production delivery of agentic and LLM-based systems across AI-native software delivery, business process automation, and shared AI platform foundations with an accent on architecture, evaluation, reliability, security, and governance. Focus on designing multi-step workflows with retrieval and tool use, defining measurable quality and telemetry, controlling cost and latency, and guiding cross-team initiatives from problem definition to production.
Location: Hybrid in Madrid, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Sao Paulo, or Bucharest

What you will do
- Lead AI initiatives from problem definition and technical planning through production delivery.
- Design agentic and LLM-based systems involving workflows, retrieval, tool use, orchestration, and state management.
- Define reusable architectures, engineering standards, libraries, playbooks, and documentation.
- Establish evaluation datasets, regression tracking, quality metrics, acceptance criteria, and end-to-end telemetry.
- Drive reliability, scalability, observability, incident learning, and cost optimization for AI services.
- Mentor engineers and tech leads while aligning technical and non-technical stakeholders across teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant senior- or Staff-level scope.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience building and operating LLM-based systems, preferably in production.
- Experience with distributed systems, software architecture, cloud infrastructure, observability, testing, and evaluation of complex systems.
- Experience technically leading multi-team initiatives from design through production and influencing without formal authority.
- Ability to make trade-offs across quality, latency, cost, security, and vendor dependency.
Nice to have
- Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, the Claude Agent SDK, or MCP.
- Experience with Kubernetes, containerized execution environments, LLM gateways, model routing, or cost management.
- Background in machine learning, applied research, payments, financial services, or other regulated environments.
