AI Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Cluj, Romania; hybrid workplace with openness to remote work

What you will do

• Drive the architecture, development, and optimization of generative AI applications for BMW Group.
• Implement end-to-end RAG pipelines covering ingestion, chunking, embeddings, retrieval, and re-ranking, and integrate them with internal data sources.
• Design AI data storage using vector search in Snowflake and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Analyze, integrate, and prepare data from multiple sources for AI-driven solutions.
• Experiment with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Azure OpenAI models to improve performance, reliability, and applicability across business use cases.
• Establish testing, observability, security, performance optimization, guardrails, and evaluation practices while collaborating with AI platform teams and business units.

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, focused on backend or data-intensive applications.
• Strong Python proficiency and experience building production systems.
• Strong understanding of clean code, unit and integration testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Azure OpenAI and orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph.
• Proven experience with RAG architectures, vector databases, and embeddings.
• Experience with ETL, data pipelines, document processing, and data preprocessing for LLM applications.
• Experience implementing guardrails, safety checks, and evaluation frameworks for LLM applications.
• Familiarity with MLOps or LLMOps practices for deploying, monitoring, and maintaining AI models and AI-enabled services in production.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in an agile environment.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
