What you will do

• Design and build real-time risk decisioning systems to score transactions while balancing fraud loss, approval rates, and latency.
• Develop tooling and automation for the dispute and chargeback lifecycle, including review queues and evidence collection.
• Engineer large-scale fraud signals such as device fingerprinting, BIN signals, and cross-account linkage to detect monetization abuse.
• Own and optimize key metrics including loss rate, dispute rate, and false-positive rates.
• Lead investigations into emerging fraud patterns and build adaptive, multi-layered defenses.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, legal, and external payment processors.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data analysis tools.
• Experience building or operating fraud, risk, or abuse detection systems in production.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Must be based in the US (San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle).

Nice to have

• 8+ years of industry software engineering experience with a focus on payments fraud or risk.
• Fluency with payment rails (Stripe, Adyen, card networks, in-app purchase platforms).
• Direct experience combating card testing, stolen-card monetization, and promotional abuse.
• Experience building hybrid rules-and-ML risk systems.
• Background in marketplace or subscription-based businesses.
