Data Migration Engineer

Data Migration Engineer (ETL): Own the technical execution of customer data migrations from legacy systems into hirify.global, with an accent on extract → transform → load pipelines, declarative version-controlled mapping files, and end-to-end validation and reconciliation. Focus on turning messy real-world data into clean, repeatable, production-ready migrations while diagnosing discrepancies during dry runs, UAT, and post-cutover.

What you will do

• Explore legacy source systems (databases, flat files, reports, APIs) to understand structure, quality, and relationships in the target data model.
• Export data using SQL, APIs, manual extracts, and database backups.
• Transform exported data into hirify.global’s standard format by authoring declarative, version-controlled mapping files that encode business rules.
• Execute migrations end-to-end on the internal migration platform: load, validate against target schemas, reconcile, and import to production.
• Build reusable mappings, templates, and validation rules to make migrations faster and more repeatable.
• Diagnose and resolve data discrepancies during dry runs, UAT, and post-cutover; document mapping specs, transformation logic, and anomalies.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in data engineering, data migration, ETL, or a similar hands-on data role.
• Strong ETL fundamentals, including staging, repeatable/idempotent loads, full vs. incremental loads, and validation/reconciliation at each stage.
• Hands-on data manipulation skills: querying, profiling, and reshaping data (SQL, Python, JSON or similar) and debugging unfamiliar source schemas.
• Experience extracting data from relational databases, APIs, flat files, and backups.
• Solid understanding of data quality, validation, reconciliation, and cleansing techniques.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript (Node) for data and tooling work, with comfort using version-controlled, repeatable transformations.
