TL;DR
Staff System Safety Engineer (Defense): Ensuring the safety of defense products through hazard analysis and safety feature recommendations with an accent on MIL-STD-882 and software safety assessments. Location: Must be based in the US (specifically Grand Prairie, Texas or Orlando, Florida). Hybrid setup with part-time remote telework available.

What you will do
- Develop hazard analyses, software safety assessments, and hazardous material management plans.
- Recommend safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to eliminate or control hazards.
- Flow down system safety requirements to suppliers and verify design implementation.
- Prepare technical documentation and presentations for independent safety board meetings.
- Participate in accident investigations to identify causes and corrective actions.
- Mentor and train early-career System Safety Engineers in the discipline.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
- Experience implementing System Safety Programs in accordance with MIL-STD-882.
- Familiarity with Software Safety Programs IAW AOP-52 and DoD guidelines.
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for formal presentations to large groups.
Nice to have
- Experience supporting independent government Safety Review Boards.
- Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering.
- Familiarity with missile and launcher systems.
- Experience with DOORS requirements application.
- Model-based engineering knowledge.
