Cost Engineer (Automotive)

Cost Engineer (Automotive): Analyzing and validating component material costs and production tooling estimates for vehicle programs with an accent on data-driven financial evaluation and manufacturing process comprehension. Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Warren, Michigan (Hybrid: 3 days/week in office)

What you will do

• Generate ground-up material cost estimates including piece price and production tooling.
• Collaborate with product engineering, purchasing, and supply chain teams to validate cost targets.
• Develop and maintain cost models using internal GM systems and industry best practices.
• Analyze large datasets to identify cost drivers and propose actionable cost reductions.
• Partner with the GPSC purchasing team to ensure competitive component pricing.
• Participate in cross-team process improvement efforts to enhance data quality and efficiency.

Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience in financial evaluation of technical concepts and production processes.
• Expertise in Microsoft Excel and ability to manage complex, multi-project workloads.
• Proven ability to influence cross-functional partners and resolve conflicts without direct authority.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills for condensing complex cost data.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA), Technical Management, or Engineering.
• Prior experience at an automotive OEM or in product manufacturing.
• Curiosity regarding automotive components and financial cost drivers.
