Senior Software Engineer (IoT/Backend): Designing and delivering high-impact home automation features, including rules, schedules, and data infrastructure, with an accent on scalable backend services and API design. Location: Tysons, Virginia. Hybrid (office attendance required 4 days a week). Sponsorship for employment authorization is not available.

Salary: $112,650 - $147,801 USD

What you will do

• Lead the end-to-end design and delivery of home automation features, including rules, schedules, and notifications.
• Develop software across various platforms, focusing primarily on backend development and data infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Product Management and Quality Engineering throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• Mentor engineers and shape technical direction through design reviews and architectural decisions.
• Research and apply new technologies to solve challenging project goals for a consumer-scale platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 6+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong backend engineering skills building and maintaining HTTP APIs (REST and/or GraphQL).
• Deep knowledge of object-oriented design, SOLID principles, and common design patterns.
• Solid database fundamentals including schema design, query optimization, and migration strategy.
• Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with C# and .NET Core.
• Experience with "If This Then That" (IFTTT) style automation systems.
• Frontend experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React, Ember, Vue, or Angular).
• Familiarity with Kafka, enterprise-scale microservices, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with low-level programming languages or assembly.
• Effective use of AI-assisted development tools.
