TL;DR

Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Medtech): Designing and developing bare-metal firmware, device drivers, and embedded platforms for next-generation ultrasound imaging systems with an accent on hardware-software co-design and ASIC integration. Focus on building performant imaging pipelines, leading SoC bring-up, and ensuring system reliability through robust Python tooling and hardware-in-the-loop CI pipelines.

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to New York, NY or San Francisco, CA (Hybrid: 2-3 days/week in office)

Compensation: $200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits

What you will do

• Define and develop next-generation embedded software architecture in partnership with hardware and imaging teams.
• Design performant imaging sequencing control software, safety monitoring systems, and real-time data processing pipelines.
• Develop bare-metal firmware and low-level device drivers in C/C++ for custom ASICs.
• Lead early-stage SoC bring-up, debugging, and validation using pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
• Create automated, end-to-end tests and integrate them into hardware-in-the-loop CI pipelines.
• Act as a technical leader and mentor for the embedded software team.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in C/C++ embedded application development.
• 10+ years of experience creating and testing complex software-intensive systems.
• Deep understanding of computer architecture and cross-platform application development.
• Experience with wireless protocols (WiFi and BLE).

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time OSes, USB, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, and UART.
• Proficiency with board-level debugging tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Background in safety-critical systems (medicine, aerospace, or scientific computing).
• Experience with iOS/Android hardware accessory development.
