Databricks SME (Remote) (Azure)

Location: Fully remote within the United States

Salary: $175,000–$195,000 annually

What you will do

• Administer Databricks workspaces, linked services, mount points, catalog configuration, permissions, and access provisioning within the VA data environment.
• Develop and optimize PySpark, Python, and Scala jobs, notebooks, workflows, and Spark-based analytics processing.
• Build ETL/ELT pipelines with Azure Databricks Lakehouse, Delta Lake, Synapse, and related Azure data services.
• Optimize data workloads for performance, cost, scalability, data quality, governance, and security.
• Support VA workgroups with cloud migration, resource setup, onboarding sessions, office hours, troubleshooting, reusable templates, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, infrastructure specialists, Customer Success, Business Analysts, and Platform Engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of experience in business analysis, project management, or a similar role.
• Strong Databricks and Azure data services experience, including workspace administration, catalog creation, linked services, storage mounts, and access configuration.
• Proficiency in ETL/ELT development, data modeling, and management of structured and unstructured datasets.
• Experience automating provisioning and infrastructure with Python, PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, ARM, or Bicep.
• Ability to obtain and maintain suitability/Public Trust.

Nice to have

• Experience with Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, SQL Server, Unity Catalog, Starburst, SSRS, or SSIS.
• Knowledge of lakehouse architectures, distributed data systems, CI/CD, DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Background in onboarding, training, technical support, customer success, healthcare data, or federal data governance and security.
• Experience with Jira, ServiceNow, or SharePoint.
• Relevant Azure, Databricks, Spark, PySpark, SQL, Python, or data engineering certifications.
