Software Developer (Fullstack): Developing and maintaining software infrastructure for the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) with an accent on large-scale data processing pipelines, APIs, and web interfaces. Focus on improving the usability and scalability of nucleotide sequence data retrieval systems and integrating AI-assisted workflows.

Location: Hybrid in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire (UK). Relocation package available.

Salary: £3,425.05 per month (net)

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain software systems supporting ENA's data submission and processing services.
• Work across the full technology stack, contributing to backend services, APIs, and user-facing web applications.
• Improve the usability, performance, and scalability of the ENA Browser.
• Collaborate with bioinformaticians and international partners within the INSDC partnership.
• Build reliable, scalable software for the long-term archiving of nucleotide sequence data.

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing full stack software applications.
• Strong programming experience with Java and the Spring framework.
• Experience developing frontend applications using Angular and TypeScript.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and relational/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB).
• Excellent English language skills.

Nice to have

• Exposure to graph databases such as Neo4j.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana or Kibana and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and FAIR data principles.
• Experience working with large scientific or bioinformatics datasets.
