Human-Centered Designer (AI): Designing the end-to-end experience of the ARPA-H production AI assistant GRACE with an accent on agentic AI interaction patterns and trust-building interfaces. Location: Must be based in the USA (Washington, DC). Remote work is possible, though occasional in-person attendance at company or customer facilities may be required.

Salary: $86,800 – $198,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end design (research, interaction, and visual) for the production AI assistant GRACE.
• Design interaction patterns for agentic AI, including conversational flows, reasoning visibility, and human-in-the-loop confirmations.
• Create trustworthy presentations for rich AI outputs, including citations, tables, and generated images.
• Develop and evolve a scalable design system to ensure accessibility and product consistency.
• Conduct high-velocity user research, interviews, and usability tests to drive weekly iterations.
• Collaborate closely with engineers and applied researchers to translate design intent into shipped production code.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in product or UX design with a portfolio of shipped products.
• Proven experience designing for AI, LLM, or agentic products, specifically handling probabilistic outputs.
• Proficiency in modern design tools such as Figma, including design systems and prototyping.
• Expertise in the full design lifecycle, from user research to high-fidelity visual design.
• Deep knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG or Section 508.
• Must be authorized to work in the US and based in the USA.

Nice to have

• Experience with front-end implementation, including React and Chainlit.
• Background in designing complex, information-dense productivity or research tools.
• Experience working in startup or early-stage environments.
• Strong skills in rapid prototyping and handling ambiguity.
