TL;DR
Statistical Geneticist (Genomics): Developing robust analytical strategies and conducting advanced statistical genetics analyses to uncover biological mechanisms of health and disease with an accent on multivariate phenotypes and multi-omics integration. Focus on leading GWAS, polygenic risk scores, and deriving quantitative representations of complex phenotypic profiles.
Location: Based in Milan, Italy
Salary: Up to €50,000 gross annual salary + €2,000 welfare

What you will do
- Lead advanced statistical genetics analyses, including GWAS, polygenic risk scores, and Mendelian randomisation, using large-scale genomic and clinical datasets.
- Advise research group leaders and junior analysts on statistical, computational, and AI-based approaches to address biological questions.
- Translate complex research questions into robust, reproducible analytical strategies, including study design and pipeline development.
- Develop and validate methods for deriving embeddings and latent variables for multivariate traits and disease trajectories.
- Review analytical plans and code to ensure methodological rigour, reproducibility, and best practices in version control.
Requirements
- PhD in Statistical Genetics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Hands-on experience in statistical genetics and the analysis of large-scale human genetic datasets.
- Strong programming skills in R and/or Python and experience with Linux/HPC environments.
- Experience with statistical genetics software such as PLINK, REGENIE, or GCTA.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Must be based in or able to relocate to Milan, Italy.
Nice to have
- Experience with multi-omics and/or single-cell datasets.
- Experience applying machine learning or AI approaches to biological data.
- Experience with reproducible research practices and version control (Git/GitHub).
- Previous experience mentoring or supervising junior researchers.
