Nursing Officer (Medical Assistance)

Location: Australia — Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, or Brisbane. Hybrid working arrangement with four 10-hour days per week, from 07:30 to 17:30.

What you will do

• Review inpatient medical updates, treatment plans, medical histories, and ongoing care requirements.
• Assess medical necessity and determine suitability for medical evacuation or repatriation.
• Recommend cost-containment strategies while protecting patient care quality.
• Coordinate with operations, equipment managers, and flight teams on clinical staffing and equipment for escorted repatriations.
• Provide travel health advice, patient advocacy, and health education by telephone and email.
• Document sensitive medical information, support quality initiatives, and provide out-of-hours assistance for urgent clinical reviews.

Requirements

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Minimum five years of post-registration clinical experience in acute care, such as emergency nursing, ICU, critical care, or prehospital and retrieval medicine.
• Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, illness, and injury.
• Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Strong clinical judgment, analytical thinking, communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to complete a six-week intensive in-person training program and up to five months of additional hybrid training during probation.

Nice to have

• Flight nursing, aeromedical retrieval, or assistance and medical case management experience.
• International private medical case management, pre-authorization, or utilization review experience.
• Teaching, coaching, mentoring, or foreign language experience.
• Personal or professional international travel experience.
