TL;DR
Packaging Engineer (Structural Design): Developing structural packaging solutions for games with an accent on dieline creation, box sizing, and internal packout optimization. Focus on ensuring production feasibility, cost-efficiency, and high-quality unboxing experiences while collaborating with art and production teams.

Location: Must be based in or near Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)

What you will do

  • Create custom die lines for game boxes, inserts, trays, and instruction manuals.
  • Analyze Bills of Materials (BOMs) to determine optimal box sizing and component organization.
  • Design insert tray structures that balance production feasibility with intuitive unboxing.
  • Collaborate with Art, PMO, and Production teams to align packaging with creative and quality standards.
  • Review factory-adjusted die lines and resolve structural or material issues before final production.
  • Identify opportunities for material efficiency and cost savings without compromising durability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Structural Packaging Design, or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Deep understanding of packaging manufacturing processes, materials, and construction methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple SKUs and tight deadlines simultaneously.
  • Must be available for a part-time contract (15-20 hours per week).
  • Must be able to work in a hybrid capacity in Los Angeles, CA.

Nice to have

  • Experience in toy, game, or retail packaging.
  • Proficiency in CAD or 3D modeling software.
