Lead Backend Developer (Python): Building and scaling marketplace backend services with an accent on microservices architecture, REST APIs, PostgreSQL performance, and reliability. What you will do
- Lead the architecture and delivery of new backend services and major features from RFC through production.
- Develop Python/Django services, REST APIs, business logic, and integrations with payment, CRM, analytics, and fiscal systems.
- Drive the decomposition of the monolith into microservices, including service boundaries, API contracts, and data migration strategies.
- Optimize PostgreSQL performance and operate scalable environments using Docker and Redis.
- Own reliability through security reviews, monitoring, alerting, fault tolerance, technical-debt management, and load scaling.
- Interview, onboard, mentor, and support engineers through code reviews, pair programming, 1:1s, and retrospectives.
Requirements
- 6+ years of commercial experience with Python and Django.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including complex queries, indexing, profiling, and performance optimization.
- Experience designing REST APIs and microservice architectures.
- Practical experience with Docker, Redis, high-load systems, and architectural decision-making.
- Hands-on experience with code review and technical mentorship.
- English at Upper-Intermediate level or above.
Nice to have
- Experience with classifieds, marketplaces, or e-commerce.
- Payment and fiscal-service integrations.
- AI-assisted development using Cursor, Claude Code, or LLM prompting.
- Monolith-to-microservices migration experience.
- Celery, Kafka or Redpanda, and Elasticsearch.
